The good news is that some of the restrictions of lockdown are finally being lifted!
We don’t know about you, but we’re more than a little excited about seeing friends, family and maybe even a love interest again after so long apart.
And while we’re not entirely sure what the new version of normality will look like, we do know we want to enjoy this summer like never before! And to feel good while we’re doing it!
But coming out the other end of lockdown feels a bit like waking up from a long nap… We’re sluggish, feeling a bit under the weather and lacking in energy.
After all, over the last couple of months not only have we been less active, but we may have been indulging our cravings more than usual too. Not to mention the extra glass of wine at dinner!
Sound familiar? Then now is the perfect time to overhaul our lifestyles, restart and get back on a healthier track.
“What this pandemic has taught us is that it’s really important to look after ourselves,” says celebrity Nutritional Therapist Gabriela Peacock. “People’s attitude to nutrition has changed quite dramatically. We’re all a lot more conscious of looking after ourselves and staying healthy in the current climate. Investing in your health and wellbeing is important, because ultimately it decreases the likelihood of many chronic nutrition-related diseases, like diabetes and obesity.”
Gabriela Peacock is a Nutritional Therapist with a decade of experience helping clients with their health and wellbeing.
Gabriela, a former model who became disillusioned with the conflicting nutritional advice she was being given, decided to leave the fashion industry and study Health Science, Nutritional Therapy and Naturopathic Nutrition for herself, and has now been practicing for over nine years.
From her clinic in London’s Belgravia (currently a virtual clinic….) she treats clients who come to her for help with their health, wellbeing and weight management and has also launched her own range of high quality supplements, GP Nutrition‡.
With a long list of VIP regulars including TV stars like Piers Morgan and Melanie Sykes, the model Jodie Kidd and jewellery designer Rosie Fortescue, she really knows how to get her clients looking and feeling great.
So who better to guide us back to a place where we’re in balance and coming back into the world feeling positive and energised?
“It’s a good idea to refresh your body,” she says. “I’ve found that people have been drinking quite a bit during lockdown, so some kind of cleanse is good. We can start exercising more and I recommend adding high quality supplements to your routine, to complement a healthy varied diet. As we’re starting to slowly move out of lockdown, we’ve got time to focus on improving our health and wellbeing and come out of this looking and feeling better than ever.
So for a guide to mindful drinking and tips on how supplements like Gabriela’s liver-loving Clean Me can help us to reset, read on.
You could end up feeling like a brand new you!
The GP Way
“Supplements allow that little bit of leeway,” Gabriela says. “Take it easy on yourself and make sure you’re still getting the optimum nutrition for your health, alongside eating a varied and balanced diet.”
“I’m all about balance,” says Gabriela. “I don’t believe in strict rules and banning foods. Food can be a source of enjoyment and life is too short not to enjoy the things we love. It’s just about getting the balance right and making healthy choices when we can.”
That’s music to our ears, especially when we’re just at the start of a lifestyle makeover. But as well as guiding her clients with their diet, Gabriela says that good quality supplements have a part to play too.
THE GP WAY
From products to advice everything is founded on Gabriela’s balanced approach. GP Nutrition is all about simplifying how we take supplements so we can get on with enjoying life.
This is the GP Way!
Realistic: We don’t ban food groups or believe in strict rules. Neither do we make vacant promises. We offer realistic advice and goals.
Sustainable: We want you to feel your best in the long term. It’s not just about a ‘quick fix’.
Research-Led: Our Nutrition Team do their homework so you don’t have to.
Quality Ingredients: Because your body deserves the best.
Convenience: Our supplements are in handy daily sachets so you can grab-and-go.
“No one is perfect, and neither can our diets be,” she explains. “In my clinic, we always consider if a client’s diet could benefit from the added support of supplementation. Our bodies utilise so many nutrients everyday to keep us running, and if we are too busy, stressed, enjoying a few too many glasses of wine or unable to keep up that perfectly healthy balanced diet everyday, supplements provide a great way to ensure we give our body everything it needs to function normally and stay healthy.”
Gabriela knows all too well that the recent situation has meant we’ve been unable to follow up on our best intentions and even at the best of times, sticking to a well balanced diet every day can be unmanageable.
“Supplements allow that little bit of leeway,” she says. “Take it easy on yourself and make sure you’re still getting the optimum nutrition for your health, alongside eating a varied and balanced diet.”
It was this belief in the power of supplements that led Gabriela to create her own range. But she decided to do things differently.
“It got to the point where I was basically writing shopping lists for my clients to buy multiple supplements that included my recommendation for dosage, the form and capsule type. They looked more like essays than shopping lists,” Gabriela remembers. “This took up a lot of my clients’ time and I thought there must be an easier way; that’s when I came up with the idea for GP Nutrition.
Instead of asking her clients to shop for multiple different supplements, Gabriela created her own more convenient range, with GP Nutrition
“Instead of selling individual capsules and powders in big jars we created supplement kits, with pre-packed daily sachets and drinks that focus on specific goals. They’re super convenient. You can grab and go. It’s an easy way of taking supplements and we believe in making everything easy for clients.”
No wonder so many celebrities and high profile individuals love Gabriela’s approach.
A post-lockdown revamp!
So what steps can we take to get us fighting fit as we move from lockdown into a more ‘normal’ world.
Gabriela recommends making the most of the opportunity to be outside and be more active, but says we don’t need to dive straight into a killer work out regime
Start to become more active now that lockdown restrictions are easing
Gabriela says take one step at a time, introducing more vegetables into your diet each day
“Get started at the level you are at,” she says. “Add just something into your day that gets you outside and moving, in any way you can. From walking to the shops to lunchtime gardening to a cycle ride up the nearest hill. If you’ve got the space then online exercise and yoga classes are fantastic too.”
And when it comes to a healthier diet Gabriela says that same ethos of one change at a time is important. “Take it easy on yourself,” she suggests. “Increase your vegetables each day, swap white for wholegrain carbohydrates and focus on eating fewer processed and packaged foods.
And while many of us can get all the nutrients we need from a healthy diet, taking a multivitamin is a great way to support your body and support your base health.
So what about alcohol? We’ve definitely been having a few more glasses of wine with dinner than usual, as well as getting creative with homemade cocktails for all those video meet-ups…
Thankfully Gabriela’s rational approach applies here too.
“I don’t believe in judgement especially now when we are under more stress,” she says. “We know alcohol is not great for immunity and health, which we want to support but I also understand lockdown and isolation is tough and people want to look forward to a treat.”
So she recommends to her patients that they have at least three days a week without any alcohol consumption and that they do what they can to support their liver as well.
And that’s where the GP Nutrition Clean Me kits come in.

Gabriela’s guide to drinking more mindfully!
Gabriela is all about moderation and mindfulness when it comes to drinking alcohol
We all over indulge from time to time, but for Gabriela it’s all about moderation, mindfulness and supporting our livers while we do it.
“It’s absolutely fine, you can drink,” she says. “But these are the tips we recommend.”
1. Drink water I always tell my patients to drink a full glass of water after a glass of alcohol. You’ll really slow down your drinking rate, plus you’ll stay hydrated!
2. Don’t drink on an empty stomach Always have some protein first. Hummus, nuts, olives or cheese are great to have before you start drinking. The protein will help to slow down the spike of sugar into your blood stream and therefore subsequent raised insulin levels. It will help to stabilise blood sugar levels* and help to prevent weight gain.
Opt for red wine and don’t drink on an empty stomach
3. Protect your liver I do allow my patients to drink moderately but I always recommend a good quality liver-supporting supplement like Clean Me as well. To function effectively, the liver is dependent on nutrients and not only will alcohol deplete the nutrients available to the liver, but it must also work harder to process the alcohol.
4. Choose wisely The problem with alcohol is generally the mixers because that’s where a lot of sugar comes from. Once you’ve had a few vodka cranberries, there is an incredible amount of calories in there. I always recommend good quality clear spirits like vodka, gin and tequila mixed with fresh citrus juice, sparkling water and ice. Or opt or red wine which contains polyphenols which have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects**.
5. Look at the label 100 per cent organic wines, biodynamic wines or all-natural wines have less chemicals and fewer sulphites added post-harvest. These can often give you a nasty hangover and cause disruption in your body!
