Broward County Public Schools Food & Nutrition Services Hits 1 Million Meals!

By: Sharon Aron Baron

Broward County Public Schools have been closed nearly two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the district is still serving meals.

To date, the district has served over 1 million meals to the community. It remains committed to serving the community by offering grab-and-go meals for breakfast and lunch to children and their families.

This milestone showcases the dedication, sacrifice, and hard work of the Food & Nutrition Services staff who work tirelessly to provide this needed service during this critical time.

To reduce trips and safely maintain social distancing, meal distribution is available twice a week at select school locations where families can pick up multiple meals at once.

There are 25 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and 15 high school distribution sites across Broward County. These include James Hunt Elementary, Coral Springs Middle, J.P. Taravella, and Coral Springs High School.

The meal distribution takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays only from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., where children and their families can pick up multiple meals each.

Children who are not present may still receive meals with valid identification. Meals are handed out in the bus or car loop as they either drive up or walk up to reduce the risk of exposure.
