CHICAGO — Pestell Nutrition, a division of Pestell that manufactures feed and pet food ingredients, acquired London, Ontario-based Premier Ag Resources (PAR) Nov. 25 to expand its reach across Canada and the US.

PAR, founded in 1992, is a distributor of feed ingredients, additives and related animal nutrition products. The acquisition will complement Pestell’s current operations and distribution and allow it to “cross-sell” between its customer bases, according to Wind Point Partners, which owns Pestell.

Following the acquisition, management will focus on leveraging PAR’s offerings to optimize Pestell’s products and operations with the goal of establishing the company as “the preeminent distributor of animal nutrition and specialty pet food ingredients across North America,” according to Wind Point Partners.

“PAR is a great company with a diverse product portfolio and strong customer base across both the specialty pet food ingredient and animal feed additive sectors. When combined with Pestell Nutrition, we further strengthen our product offering to our customers and expand our geographic reach,” said Jerry Vergeer, CEO of Pestell Nutrition.

Paul Peterson, managing director with Wind Point Partners, added, “PAR is a highly strategic add-on and supports numerous aspects of Wind Point’s value creation plan. This acquisition is another example of how the Pestell Nutrition team is executing on our strategy to become a more diversified and value-added distributor across the animal nutrition industry.”

This is the second acquisition made by Pestell Nutrition since Wind Point Partners made its first investment in the company in June 2018. Pestell Nutrition’s first acquisition was of Pro Ag Products in August 2019, which expanded its presence in the Canadian feed additive market.

The overall Pestell Group, which includes a focus on finished pet products, also acquired Targeted Pet Treats (TPT) in December 2018, bolstering its position in the dental pet treat market.
